Why Marx Was Right by Terry Eagleton

image

In this combative, controversial book, Terry Eagleton takes issue with the prejudice that Marxism is dead and done with. Taking ten of the most common objections to Marxism—that it leads to political tyranny, that it reduces everything to the economic, that it is a form of historical determinism, and so on—he demonstrates in each case what a woeful travesty of Marx's own thought these assumptions are. In a world in which capitalism has been shaken to its roots by some major crises, Why Marx Was Right is as urgent and timely as it is brave and candid. Written with Eagleton's familiar wit, humor, and clarity, it will attract an audience far beyond the confines of academia.

  1. Could you please upload India After Gandhi by Ramchandra Guha and The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East by Robert Fisk? It only seems befitting that you include these masterful works to this wealth of knowledge. Please take my request into regard. It would mean a lot. Thank You.

  6. I sincerely found Eagleton's considerations on historical materialism and Marxist economics quite "naive"; I'm a bit disappointed.
What do you think, in general, about this book? : )

  7. Ferri, Eagleton is a bit of a trot, but this book is aimed at garden variety liberals. I thought it was an excellent introduction... entry level stuff.

    Nothing wrong with that though!

  8. I simply admire Marx and his works. Not that I am a total Marxian though. I was able to finish my online degrees and certification for my chosen career and profession because of some of his famous sayings that really was installed in my mind.

  9. NO way...Marx was dead wrong. His idealogy resulted in the estimated deaths of 100 million people last century, many of them brutally tortured before being murdered, plus several hundred million more souls that suffered under this monstrous Talmudic tyranny. Jewish communism is BY FAR the most supreme evil ever imposed upon humanity. Thanks Jews and useful idiots!
